A day in the "Anarchist Jurisdiction"

A day in the "Anarchist Jurisdiction"

It felt weird to be outside playing basketball in September and I couldn't figure out why. At first I thought maybe it was because basketball isn't something anarchists play a lot. But then I realized it was just sunny for once!

Things don't look normal today in Seattle. Why is the sun out?

For anyone not living in Seattle who may have concerns for our well being or that of the city here are a couple of fun facts for you:

  • In 2018, the most recent full year for which FBI data is available, New York ranked 111th for violent crime on a per capita basis out of 294 cities with populations of over 100,000, reporting 541 incidents of violent crime per 100,000 residents.
  • Portland ranked 116th and Seattle ranked 82nd at rates of 520 and 680 per 100,000 residents, respectively.
  • The five most dangerous cities based on the number of reported violent crimes (murder, rape, robbery and aggravated assault) per 100,000 residents in 2018 were Detroit (2,007.8); Memphis, Tennessee (1,943.2); Birmingham, Alabama (1,911.5); Baltimore (1,833.4); and St. Louis (1,800.4).
