We can't be this stupid.
Today Amazon announced a number of new products but the wildest one was the new Ring Always Home Camera. It's an indoor drone with a web camera that will autonomously fly around your home while recording video. Apparently the purpose is for home security but it seems like it accomplishes the exact opposite.
Who comes up with the idea that this product should be made? What real problem does this solve that even remotely offsets the risks to privacy that it entails? Who is going to want to not only allow something like this in their home but actually pay for the ability to do it?
Anyone with a smart speaker in their house right now has everything they say in their home essentially open to the world. Either through getting your home networked hacked, Amazon/Google getting hacked, or either company willfully giving up your data to advertisers or governments. Do you really want to give a 24/7 video feed of your house at the same time?
